The world's most enduring roofing material
was made by nature. Cedar. For years
manufacturers have tried to duplicate the
natural beauty and durability of cedar shakes
and shingles. While imitation is flattering, it
does not approach the integrity of the
original. Cedar is prized for its natural beauty
and durability in tough climate conditions.

For hundreds of years cedar has protected
homes from harsh conditions. Cedar shakes
and shingles withstand winds exceeding 120
mph and 130 mph, respectively. Cedar, with a
hail resistance rating of up to Class 4, stands
up tough against hail storms. Cedar's unique
cellular structure makes it an excellent
insulator, keeping your home cooler in the
summer and warmer in the winter. Cedar
withstands the extreme temperatures and
freeze-thaw conditions found across North
America.

Cedar is lightweight and earthquake safe. At
only around 2½ pounds per square foot,
cedar shakes and shingles are one of the
lightest and toughest roofing materials
available.

The natural beauty and architectural
versatility of cedar shakes and shingles have
made this material a choice among the world's
great architects. Wood shakes and shingles
have been used in historical architecture
around the country; from the shingle style
estates of the Northeast, ranch houses in the
Midwest, bungalow styles of California and the
rustic contemporary homes of the Northwest.

Modern technology now combines the appeal
and durability of genuine cedar, plus the
safety standards required in fire hazard
areas. Cedar Plus provides enduring fire
protection with a state of the art treating
process. Cedar Plus high quality cedar
shakes and shingles are placed in pressure
treatment cylinders where fire retardants are
injected into the inner cells of the wood. The
material then goes through a polymerization
process and the fire retardants are locked
into the wood fiber. After 10 years of outdoor
weathering and regular testing, the treatment
has been deemed permanent. Cedar Plus
shakes and shingles are tested and certified
to Underwriters Laboratories standard
UL-790, Uniform Building Code standard 15-2
and National Fire Protection Association
standard NFPA-256.
